Paragliding Tandem Flight : how to dress and prepare for your flight ?
That's it ! Your paragliding flight is booked. You're off to discover paragliding. Congratulations! But suddenly a question pops into your head! What should I wear for my first paragliding tandem flight ?
Don't panic, here's a little guide to help you choose your outfit for your paragliding experience.
WHAT CLOTHES TO WEAR FOR A PARAGLIDING TANDEM FLIGHT
First and foremost, and in addition to clothing, which may or may not make sense depending on the season and weather conditions, there's also the question of accessories, such as gloves or goggles, which will be particularly interesting to discuss in order to make sure you have the right outfit for paragliding tandem flight.
WHAT CLOTHING SHOULD YOU WEAR FOR PARAGLIDING IN SUMMER?
Don't be fooled into thinking that just because it's hot on the ground, you'll be hot in the air. In fact, if you're used to hiking in the mountains, for example, you'll be well aware that the higher you climb, the lower the temperature.
That's why you need the following equipment for a paragliding experience, even in summer :
- Thin pants will suffice in most cases, but in winter you can always opt for warmer pants.
- If you have a pair of gloves, that's a plus. No need for ski gloves, a pair of thin gloves will do.
- A t-shirt with a sweater or jacket. Generally speaking, you won't need a heavy winter jacket.
- Finally, sunglasses - not essential, but recommended to keep the wind out of your eyes. They'll enhance your flying comfort.
In all cases, it's better to plan for clothing that's too warm than the opposite. When you arrive at the paragliding school, don't hesitate to ask for advice on the appropriate clothing for the flying site and the day's weather conditions. That way, you'll know whether you need to wear the warm clothes you've planned, or whether your day's outfit is sufficient.
WHAT TO WEAR FOR PARAGLIDING IN WINTER ?
If you're planning a paragliding tandem flight in winter, you'll need warm clothing equivalent to ski clothing. In fact, when you're flying, the sensation of temperature is colder than you might think, because movement through the air generates a relative wind that lowers the perceived temperature. What's more, if your paragliding tandem flight takes place in a ski resort, don't change your outfit - you're already fully equipped ! If it's a winter flight outside a ski resort, you'll need a suitable pair of shoes (possibly with après-ski boots if there's snow at take-off), warm clothes and a large pair of gloves, so you can withstand the cold for many minutes of the flight ! Don't forget a pair of sunglasses, as you would for a summer flight !
WHAT FOOTWEAR SHOULD I WEAR FOR PARAGLIDING ?
All you need are shoes suitable for paragliding tandem flights, such as sneakers or hiking boots. Avoid city sneakers, because even if they do the job, they're likely to get dirty on take-off and landing. And don't forget that if there's snow, you'd better be wearing après-ski boots !

During your paragliding tandem flight, your instructor will recommend that you leave everything you don't need in your car, or with your loved ones, before you take off. Don't forget to close your pockets before you take off and throughout the flight, to avoid losing your belongings in the air during your paragliding experience.
