HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A PARAGLIDING TANDEM FLIGHT ?

getting ready for a paragliding tandem flight

The big day is approaching, but you're wondering : what should I do to prepare for my first paragliding tandem flight ? Don't panic, we've put together a short guide to help you get ready for your tandem flight with your instructor, in complete safety and using the best practices. When it comes to equipment, don't worry - everything is taken care of by the school! Whether it's the wing, the harness or the helmet. All you need to bring is your outfit.

WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR FOR A PARAGLIDING EXPERIENCE ?

Obviously, your outfit for your first paragliding flight will depend on the weather conditions at the flying site. To make the most of the scenery and views, it's essential to make sure you don't get cold in flight during your first flight. In most cases, pants, a sweater and a jacket will suffice. If your paragliding tandem flight is scheduled for winter, then you'll need warm clothes, similar to those you'd wear for skiing. As for footwear, a pair of sneakers or hiking boots will do just fine!

For more details on what to wear, please see our complete guide about paragliding tandem flight at the bottom of the page.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EAT BEFORE YOUR FIRST PARAGLIDING FLIGHT ?

Many of you are wondering whether or not you should eat before your first flight. There are no specific recommendations on this point.

In fact, there's no particular dietary attitude to adopt before a flight. If you're rather sensitive to boats, then it may be advisable to eat a little less than usual if the meal is just before the flight.

In any case, there's no need to worry. Indeed, the pilot will do everything in his power to limit the strong and unpleasant sensations that the passenger may encounter during the flight.

MENTAL PREPARATION FOR A PARAGLIDING TANDEM FLIGHT : WHAT IF I'M SCARED AT TAKE-OFF ?

Here again, it's an anxiety that can paralyze some people during the activity. But there's no need to worry! Paragliding is not a jump into the void! In fact, the vast majority of paragliding take-offs take place on gently sloping terrain. When it's time to take off, you and your qualified instructor will run up the slope, so that it's your paraglider that will lift you off the ground and allow you to enter the flight phase. There's no real vacuum underfoot during this take-off phase. It's only after a few seconds, when the glider is already in the air, that you'll find yourself with several hundred meters of empty space beneath your feet. Once in the air, the feeling of vertigo gradually disappears. All that's left is to enjoy the pleasure of flying in the air and discover the joys of free flight and aerial sports.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF HEIGHTS WHEN PARAGLIDING ?

The answer is no ! Surprising as it may seem, vertigo is a sensation that only exists when your feet are in contact with the ground. In paragliding, however, you'll be sitting in a harness, not in contact with the ground. This sensation, which may be present at first, will disappear very quickly after takeoff, allowing you to enjoy your paragliding tandem flight until you land ! All that's left to do is discover the joys of free flight and aerial sports, and the pleasure of flying like a bird for an unforgettable experience! Whether you're an adult looking for an introduction to flying, or you've got a child who dreams of taking to the skies, baptisms are just what you need!
