Savage Supair: Explore new frontiers
The first prototype of the Savage was received in autumn 2018. The glide was already good from 40 to 50km/h, and the control very responsive. Supair spent the next 6 months tuning the dihedral (the arch) and braking to achieve ideal control. The adjustment allows the pilot to perform a high-performance turn while maintaining sufficient margin with the stall point. The control force increases and is maximal before the stall. The timing action is straightforward.
The year 2019 has been dedicated to maximizing the glider's performance while remaining within the EN-C certification criteria. This was followed by over a hundred hours of flying on all sizes, in sometimes perilous locations and sometimes difficult conditions, to finally arrive at the right setting.
By early 2020, the SAVAGE was ready. It is stable in pitch/roll at accelerated speed, and can be flown efficiently close to the terrain. Low speeds can be used to land at altitude. Take-off again is a breeze.
Using the Savage
The SAVAGE is a forgiving glider, but it remains a sport glider, category C, according to the EN926-2 standard on paraglider classification. To fly the SAVAGE serenely in thermals, you need to be an active pilot. We recommend that you fly at least 50 hours a year in active conditions, and that you have some previous SIV experience. In accelerated flight, you fly using the bars on the C risers, with the controls held in your hand. If you lower the brake control into the abyss of your harness, you're likely to stall the glider. Take the time to develop your thermal sensations with the glider. If you're doing a SIV course with the Savage, progress slowly towards accelerated collapses, which are more demanding than with a progression glider.
