Orca 5: The EN B tandem glider

The Orca 5 is the result of a long campaign of tests in France and abroad. It was developed in collaboration with the designers and pilots of the Dudek team, and with the help of professional users. Comfortable, maneuverable, precise and gentle on the controls, the Orca 5 is playful but retains a high level of passive safety. It's even more comfortable to inflate and load. Its efficient rounding will enable you to tackle your tandem flights with complete peace of mind. The Orca XX Cabrio is the reinforced version. It is designed for motorized flight, with take-off on foot or cart, up to 310 kg.

Design of the Orca 5

The 4-line, rigid-core wing combines the experience of recent prototypes with that of long-standing satisfied users of the original Orca. Careful calculations of aspect ratio and other factors have enabled us to take full advantage of new technologies. It retains an optimum blend of passive safety, performance and handling.

Steering

Take-off quality has been significantly improved, thanks to the wing's reduced "overshoot" effect. The Orca 5 is very precise in turns, making it easy to fly in all conditions. What's more, it's better flared and more efficient on landing.

The profile used for the Orca 5 features a shark nose, which helps maintain internal pressure and stability at different speed ranges. Internal reinforcements, structural cores and inter-caissons shape and stabilize the wing perfectly. Internal reinforcements on the trailing edge keep it slim and reduce ballooning, radically improving airflow.

Design

Dudek has created a perfectly balanced design for its Orca 5, blending high performance with safety and stability. In turbulent air, the glider behaves very reassuringly and predictably, with effective damping of pitch and roll. The Orca 5 inflates very easily, without getting stuck in the back. It then stabilizes and, with a slight braking action, easily takes off. As you approach the landing, maintain speed before performing a 2-stage braking action, allowing you to flair before coming to a complete stop. All tandem pilots appreciate these features, so we've made an effort to perfect them. Piotr Dudek's advanced engineering and years of design experience have resulted in a glider ideally suited to the expectations of pilots in this class.

Technology

CSG system (Canopy Shape Guard)

V-shaped cells

The canopy is made up of double cells, with partitions reinforced with VSS (V-Shaped Supports). This design guarantees the rigidity of the wing. The upper surface is even and there are fewer line points (reducing line length).

RSS system

(Reinforced Straps System): On the inside of the wing , the RSS (Reinforcing Strap System) is applied to the lower surface. RSS is a self-inflating reinforcement system made entirely of paraglider fabric. It effectively stiffens and stabilizes the wing.

DOA system (Dudek Optimized Airfoil)

DOA technology perfects the canopy. This technology brings together all the knowledge acquired from previous experience. It is then optimized using dedicated CFD engineering software.

Shark nose

The cell openings are located on the lower surface near the leading edge, so that the highest pressure point remains in this area as often as possible. They are designed using "shark nose" technology, which gives the reinforced profile of the leading edge a concave shape reminiscent of a shark's nose. Thanks to this shape, air inlets are smaller and further back, keeping the leading edge stable and air circulation regular. The wing 's internal pressure remains stable throughout its speed range, giving it greater resistance to collapses (especially in thermals) or front collapses at high speeds.

Flexi Edge technology

The leading edge is located close to the air inlet. Laminated fabric reinforcements with synthetic rods maintain its shape. These rods make the leading edge more rigid, allowing easier inflation, greater stability in flight and better air intake.

Auto Cleaning Slots

The cell openings are located near the leading edge on the bottom surface. Careful adjustment of their positions ensures that the highest pressure point remains in this area as often as possible. The wingtips feature the ACS (Auto Cleaning Slots) system, i.e. openings for removing dirt and sand.

The tandem glider comes complete with spreader-bars and rucksack.
