ALTI-VARIO-GPS SYS'NAV XL: COMPLETE, CONNECTED, PRACTICAL, AND LIGHTWEIGHT
"The challenge was significant... to meet the expectations of pilots who wanted to keep the SYS’Nav format while benefiting from the functions and technologies of the SYS’Evolution. The first technical lines of this instrument were drawn in 2018. Listening to pilots and retailers, it was clear that the perfect instrument lies in combining the versatility of the SYS’Nav (robustness, reliability, simplicity, autonomy, mounting on the riser...) with the performance of the SYS’Evolution (large screen, readability, features, connectivity...)." - Syride.
The Technology Inside the SYS’Nav XL
When you hold a SYS’Nav XL in your hands, the first thing you'll notice is its size! 30% larger than its predecessor, the 2.7" screen chosen by Syride uses a reflective active matrix technology similar to that in the SYS’Evolution. The advantages for the pilot are undeniable:
Optimal outdoor readability (the more sunlight, the higher the contrast)
Lower power consumption (80% less than a standard screen and no need for backlighting)
Additionally, the screen resolution (400x200 pixels) is extremely fine (22 times finer than the SYS’Nav V3 screen), with a pixel spacing of 0.147mm (compared to 0.152mm on the SYS’Evolution). This allows the pilot to see more information, precision, and detail on the same screen. The readability is also more comfortable as the pixels are not visible.
The screen customization is thus much more versatile, with a wide choice of sizes, resizable items, the ability to add text, and frame options:
Features from the SYS’Evolution are included, such as the popular thermal centering tool, graphical vario, and route summary. To minimize in-flight adjustments, Syride has added the ability to automatically switch screens depending on your proximity to an airspace, whether you're in a thermal, in transition, or approaching a waypoint:
Once configured, the instrument will automatically display the useful information based on your current situation, allowing the pilot to focus on flying without handling the instrument.
A More Powerful Speaker than on the SYS’Evolution
Integrating a speaker with the same sound quality as the SYS’Evolution was challenging. They wanted to keep the sound output on the front, which prevents sound loss. Despite the larger screen, they managed to fit a 1 Watt speaker (0.5 Watt on the SYS’Evolution) while adhering to manufacturer guidelines to achieve the best possible sound quality!
More Versatile Bluetooth Connectivity
With their experience in SYS’Evolution connectivity, it was hard to imagine a new instrument without Bluetooth. For Syride, it remains the best solution for connecting to the internet and using peripherals on a flight instrument.
USB Type-C Connectivity
Highly anticipated for its ease of use and reversibility, USB Type-C is now featured on the SYS’Nav XL. A new plastic injection mold had to be produced to meet all these new requirements (screen, speaker, USB...).
A Larger Battery and Dedicated Power Manager
The electronic board surface was reduced to accommodate a battery with 40% more capacity than the SYS’Nav (850mAh compared to 600mAh), essential to support the power-hungry speaker.
Thinner Velcros and Lightweight Design
A thinner and lighter new technology was adopted on the SYS’Nav XL for its mounting (riser or cockpit).
