A full paragliding pack for Hike & Fly

At Air et Aventure, we haven't forgotten about hikers, trail flyers, mountaineers and other mountain lovers! Here's a selection of our complete paraglider-harness-rescue packs, specially designed for Hike & Fly!

What are the special features of the glider in the complete mountain pack?

The paragliders in our mountain packs are the most optimized paragliders in terms of weight and compactness. Rated EN-A, these wings are made from ultra-light materials, often with "unsheathed" lines. To further optimize the wing's weight and volume, manufacturers have also worked hard on the structure, to limit the surface area of fabric used and the linear length of the lines.

What are the differences between mountain and light paragliders?

In general, the construction and piloting of light paragliders are very similar to those of classic paragliders. Mountain wings, on the other hand, are so optimized for lightness that their surface area is often smaller. In flight, this translates into a higher wing loading. For take-off, these types of wing are very easy to inflate, thanks to the lightness of the fabric. Once airborne, these type of gliders are more responsive and therefore more playful than light or standard paraglider. If weather conditions are conducive to thermal lift, the wing loading will often be a disadvantage compared to what you would get with a conventional wing. However, the turning radius of mountain wings is so small that you'll be able to center the thermal more effectively.

What type of harness is recommended for a complete ultra-light paragliding package?

Logically, we have chosen to select only reversible string harnesses for our ultra-light mountain beginner packs. In fact, these harnesses with leg straps have the advantage of being very light and compact in a bag. The seat does not have a seatboard. This feature removes the "rigid" part of the harness. So there's no need to worry about bag compatibility. Ideal for Hike & Fly, these harnesses are often modular. You'll find several flying options depending on the model you choose. For example, fly with the harness completed, fly with the harness alone, but without the bag, or without the airbag... Also pay attention to the positioning of the reserve parachute. These harnesses may require the use of a ventral rescue container.

Is it possible for a full paragliding pack to include an ultra-light rescue?

Of course, to remain consistent with the gliders and harnesses we offer, Air et Aventure has selected the lightest rescues on the market for each mountain pack! So, for light or medium-weight pilots, you'll even find paraglider rescue parachutes weighing less than 1 kg. For heavier pilots, the parachutes won't exceed 1.2 kg.

What is the approximate weight of a complete paragliding pack?

Generally speaking, your complete paragliding and mountaineering package will weigh no more than 8 kg when fully equipped, taking only the paragliding equipment into account. You'll need to allow around 2.5 to 3 kg for the wing, 2 kg for the harness and 1 kg for the reserve parachute. If you fly with a lot of accessories, don't worry. In most cases, adding them to your complete pack won't add more than 8 kg.
