Description
The essential elements that make up your first paragliding pack are the paraglider, the harness and the rescue parachute. Of course, you'll also need to complete it with the connecting elements you'll need to go flying. These include carabiners, quick links and risers. There are also a number of useful, but not necessarily compulsory, add-ons to complete your pack. They offer added value in terms of both comfort and progression.
If you'd like to find out more about paragliding, take a look at our Paragliding Guide.

How do I choose the right paraglider for my level?
A paraglider is classified from A to D. Class A paragliders are designed for beginner pilots, as they are more permissive. An EN B paraglider is for pilots with a little more experience. Air et Aventure recommends at least the Confirmed Pilot Certificate to fly a paraglider in this category. The closer you get to class D, the better your piloting skills will need to be.
What size paraglider should I choose according to my weight?
The choice of glider size is based on your total weight in flight. TWF is the sum of your naked weight and all your equipment (paraglider, harness, rescue, clothing, etc.). It's important to know whether you want to fly at the bottom of the range, in the middle or at the top. It's generally preferable to fly in the middle or top of the weight range, to guarantee good speed and precise piloting. When you're just starting out, it's best to seek professional advice to ensure you make the right choice of glider size.
What kind of paragliding?
There are a number of different types of paragliding which will have an impact on your choice of glider. Some mountain flying requires light equipment, while for long-distance flying, the glide ratio is more important. In order to adapt to the expectations and profiles of each paraglider pilot, we have concocted 3 main families of Complete Paragliding Packs: The Complete Beginner Pack, The Complete Beginner Light Pack and The Complete Beginner Mountain Pack.
Which paragliding harness to choose?
In paragliding, the harness is the seat in which you sit and fly. It needs to be comfortable, provide good support and allow a certain freedom of movement.
The harness consists of either a seat plate or leg straps. The harness frame also features a backrest of varying degrees of flexibility, which can be adjusted for back support or inclination.
It also features shoulder straps to support the shoulders during take-off and landing, or during inflation sessions. Finally, the harness may or may not incorporate a protection module. The two best-known are the airbag and the mousse bag.
Which rescue parachute to choose?
This is the element not to be overlooked. It comes in many shapes and weights. There are round, square, triangular and rogallo parachutes. In terms of price, stability and opening rate, each shape has its own weaknesses. To find out more, see our article on paragliding packs in the Rescue Parachute chapter.
There are also three main types of rescue parachute: standard parachutes are heavier and bulkier, but easier to pack and less expensive. Second are the lights, with reduced weight and volume. Finally, ultralights are very compact and lightweight. They're ideal for walking and flying.

The best value for your full paragliding pack
On average, the price of a complete new paragliding equipment pack for learning to fly is around €3,000. It's a substantial investment, but it's enough to get you started in paragliding. What's more, this sum is not wasted. In fact, it's common practice in paragliding to sell your first paragliding school equipment second-hand, in order to move on to equipment more suited to your level. You can sell your first beginner's pack and invest in a new EN B glider, cocoon harness or other, depending on your needs and desires.
For tighter budgets, it's possible to integrate second-hand equipment from our Air et Aventure Académie paragliding school or from our in-store test stock. We provide full tracking of used paragliders and harnesses, so you can see the exact number of flights and hours flown. The ideal way to buy a complete paragliding package ready to fly at the best price.
