Flying to the 8000
From a first expedition in the New Zealand Alps to paragliding over some of the world's highest Himalayan peaks: the story of an extraordinary adventure. Antoine Girard: the first man to paraglide over the Himalayas at over 8,000m.
"I'm almost at 5000m. The altitude intoxicates me. It's hard to tell dream from reality. Only the pain in my fingers and legs reminds me that this day is real, that this isn't one of those fantasies that lie dormant inside me. I've paraglided over Broad Peak for the hundredth time, but this time I don't need to wake up to come back to reality."
On July 23, 2016, during a 20-day, 1260-kilometer solo expedition in the heart of the Himalayas, Antoine Girard flew over the summit of Broad Peak and reached the record altitude of 8157 m. To get there, he had to face extreme flying conditions, fight hunger and sometimes stay aloft to avoid Taliban-controlled areas. Antoine takes us on a panoramic tour of the Himalayan peaks, surrounded by grandiose landscapes. We plunge with him into the heart of his adventure, sharing his daily life, his doubts, his fears and his joys. Book includes 5 photo notebooks documenting the highlights of the expedition.
