Description

Speed-Bar and Foot Stirrup for paragliding harnesses

Discover our complete catalog of Speed-Bar and Foot Stirrup for paragliding harnesses, essential accessories for optimizing your flying experience and performance. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pilot, understanding the role, types, and how to choose and use this equipment will significantly improve your paragliding experience.

The importance of paraglider speed-bar

Paraglider Speed-Bar play a crucial role in increasing flying speed and improving paraglider stability. By activating the Speed-Bar, the paraglider pilot adjusts the tension of the lines, which modifies the glider's angle of attack and, consequently, increases its speed. This makes it possible to better manage aerological conditions and optimize flight performance, particularly in terms of distance and speed.

Types of speed-bar and how they work

There are several criteria and types of Speed-Bar, which we will describe in detail here. This will enable you to make your choice according to your flying style and needs.

Rigid or flexible speed-bar?

Rigid Speed-Bars are heavier than flexible ones, and feature one or two metal bars. The advantage of a rigid bar is that these Speed-Bar are comfortable when pushed. However, to avoid asymmetrical acceleration, you need to push hard on the center of the bar.

Soft Speed-Bars, on the other hand, are made exclusively of soft materials, so when you push on them, your foot has a natural tendency to position itself in the middle of the halyard. This ensures symmetrical left-right thrust. They are a little less comfortable than rigid bar Speed-Bars, however.

1, 2 or 3 bars for my paragliding speed-bar?

1-bar Speed-Bars are generally used when you don't need to optimize your flight speed with the Speed-Bars. They are more commonly used in hike & fly. They still allow you to use the full range of acceleration, but this is less comfortable, as you have to manage all the weight on your bent legs if you don't want to accelerate all the way. What's more, they're generally supple, which means they can shear the shoe a little, reducing comfort.

2 and 3-bar Speed-Bars are the most common in practice. They allow you to optimize the rate of acceleration with your legs stretched out, guaranteeing optimum comfort and enabling you to hold an accelerated flight speed for longer. 3-Bars are very common in cocoon harnesses, as pilots generally aim for high performance, which requires precise throttle control. This makes it possible to move forward quickly in phases where you need to, or to optimize glide during a big transition, for example.

Choosing and installing a speed-bar

The choice of speed system depends on a number of factors, including harness type, flying style and personal flying preferences. It's important to select a Speed-Bar that's compatible with your harness and suited to your paragliding style. Installation requires special attention to ensure a secure connection with the risers, and precise adjustment of halyard length for optimum, safe operation.

The importance of foot stirrup

Foot stirrup add an extra level of comfort and control in flight. They allow the pilot to fly while maintaining an optimal position, reducing leg fatigue and improving comfort with a compact position in the harness. Choosing the right Foot stirrup and adjusting it correctly is crucial to reaping the full benefits, especially in terms of comfort.

Tips for optimizing use

Optimizing the use of Speed-Bar and Foot Stirrup is a matter of practice and experience. Take the time to familiarize yourself with these devices and adjust their settings according to your needs and flying conditions. Mastery of these accessories can make a significant difference to your paragliding experience, improving both comfort and performance.

Conclusion

Speed-Bar and Foot Stirrup are key components of paragliding equipment, offering significant advantages in terms of performance, comfort and safety.
